Trail of the Undead: The Way Home is a 2 dimensional, 3rd person perspective action/adventure game with puzzle solving and infection elements. If pressed, the game could be described as a cross amongst The Legend of Zelda (© Nintendo), Lemmings (Originally of DMA Design, now known as Rockstar North), and Halo 3’s (© Bungie) multiplayer game called “Infection”.
The player must use Edwin, the holy warrior, to guide his people to safety from the hordes of zombies. As the player escorts the refugees through each map, there is the danger of the zombies infecting the refugees, altering the behavior of themselves and other characters on the map. Players are rewarded points for slaying zombies and each refugee that makes it through the map safely. The game is over when Edwin has managed to escort the refugees to safety of the castle, when all of the refugees have died or upon Edwin’s death.
