shows and explains the best way I know how to pause. It doesn't use the "ketboard_wait" that you will normally be told use if you ask how to pause (or the persistant room method) but instead uses the "instance_deactivate_all" and "instance_activate_all" comands. check it out.
PS I know the platforming isn't the greatest but that's not the important part; it was just thrown in so that you can see that it actually paused the game.
