Game Name: Interceptor ;
Developed by S.A.V.E. team for OGPC (Oregon Game Project Challenge) season #2, where the assigned project theme was “water resources”. Our water resources themed game concept is centered on LOIS, the Lake Oswego Interceptor Sewer project. The LOIS system will replace the current interceptor sewer line, the backbone of Lake Oswego’s wastewater system, located in Oswego Lake. Replacement of the interceptor is critical to ensuring the environmental protection of Oswego Lake and maintaining sewer service for its residents. The existing or current interceptor is undersized, resulting in overflows during heavy rains, and it is very vulnerable to earthquakes. If the pipe is not replaced, the damage as the result of an earthquake or perhaps severe weather changes could cost a significant amount against pipe replacement.
We picked this as a game concept because LOIS is close to home, our community, and also is a controversial project, as it is basically a floating sewer line. This is an unusual and complicated undertaking. Consequently, there are many public concerns in regard to its construction and reliability and costs. The main goal of the game will be to educate the user about LOIS while maintaining an entertaining game by use of “what if” scenarios.
